Breaking Chains, Driving Change: MAS-ICNA Convention Opens in Chicago

The 23rd Annual MAS-ICNA Convention, one of the largest and most diverse Islamic conventions in North America, kicks off in Chicago Thursday, December 26.

The annual convention of the Muslim American Society (MAS) and the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), which takes place in Chicago every December, runs from December 26-28.

This year, it is held under the theme, “Breaking Chains & Driving Change.“

Against the backdrop of global crises, including the atrocities in Gaza, this year’s convention promises to be a profound exploration of societal transformation, unity, and hope for American Muslims and the broader global Muslim community.

The devastating events in Gaza have left a deep imprint on Muslims worldwide, especially in the United States. The unimaginable suffering has shattered the comfort of ordinary routines, igniting a collective resolve to confront challenges and advocate for justice.

These events have catalyzed a transformative journey—breaking the chains of apathy and igniting efforts to drive meaningful change.

This year’s theme reflects the complex process of dismantling societal constraints and fostering a movement for a more equitable and inclusive future.

Whether through steady, deliberate progress or bold, decisive action, the convention aims to inspire attendees to unite and take tangible steps toward building a liberated society.

This family-oriented event for American Muslims focuses around a variety of lectures and workshops for adults and youth featuring acclaimed speakers. It also includes a huge bazaar with more than 500 booths, a carnival for children, and entertainment sessions.

Multiple events occur at any given time, so attendees can choose topics of interest to them. 

The event is expected to draw thousands of Muslims from across the United States and Canada to McCormick Place in Chicago, known as the nation’s largest convention center.
