CBS News Shares Its Coverage Plans


It’s the end of an era for CBS News as Norah O’Donnell prepares to step down from the CBS Evening News anchor chair following the election. But before she moves on to her broader role at the network, she has one more Election Night to lead. (All times Eastern.)

O’Donnell will be front and center when America Decides: Election ’24 kicks off on Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. on CBS, joined by Margaret BrennanJohn DickersonGayle KingCecilia VegaRobert Costa, and Ed O’Keefe. Additionally, Scott McFarlane will be in-studio to focus on Congressional races, while Maurice DuBois keeps track of each candidate’s path to 270 Electoral College votes. (Dickerson and DuBois will share CBS Evening News anchoring duties after O’Donnell steps down.)

Look for Anthony Salvantao and Major Garrett to hold down the fort at the Data Desk, keeping track of all the latest exit poll information. Meanwhile, the Democracy Desk will be manned by Bill Whitaker and David Becker, who are tasked with reporting on stories related to election integrity.

Nicole Sganga, Chris KrebsAndrew BoydSamantha Vinograd will assist in that reporting, while Jan Crawford is on hand to discuss any and all election-related legal challenges. The Democracy Desk will also enlist the aid of the CBS News Confirmed fact-checking team.

Elsewhere around the country, Nancy Cordes and Ed Gordon will beam in from Vice President Kamala Harris‘ campaign headquarters in Washington, D.C., and Tony Dokoupil and Caitlin Huey-Burns will be in Florida covering former President Donald Trump‘s campaign. Additional correspondents will be on the ground in key battleground states; see the list below:

CBS News 24/7 will start streaming Election Night coverage at 4 p.m. led by Vladimir Duthiers, Lindsey Reiser and O’Keefe, with the main CBS News simulcast taking over at 7 p.m. Coverage can also be streamed on the Paramount+, Pluto TV and the CBS News app.

On the digital side, visitors to CBSNews.com will find Election Night explainers and live blogs. The network’s social media teams will also provide regular updates on all major platforms. CBS News Radio will launch its coverage at 8 p.m. led by Steve Kathan.
