Chris Nakamoto to Join WAFB in Baton Rouge
Investigative reporter Chris Nakamoto will join Baton Rouge, Louisiana CBS affiliate WAFB in January 2025.
Nakamoto will serve as the station’s chief investigative reporter and will co-anchor the 5 p.m., alongside anchor Tisha Powell.
“For decades now, WAFB Channel 9 has been the gold standard when it comes to news, weather and sports in the Baton Rouge community,” Nakamoto said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue WAFB’s legacy of excellence that you have come to trust. From the legendary Paul Gates Investigates to present day, WAFB remains committed now more than ever to shine a light in the shadows.”
Nakamoto worked at WBRZ in Baton Rouge before leaving the station in December 2023. He went on to work for InvestigateTV, the investigative arm of WAFB’s parent company, Gray Media. He will continue to contribute to InvestigateTV as he takes on his new role at WAFB.
“We are thrilled to welcome an award-winning journalist of this caliber to the WAFB family, said Joe Sciortino, WAFB general manager. “His investigative reporting has changed many lives, changed laws and led to policy changes within state government.”
“We are so pleased to have Chris Nakamoto joining our team,” said WAFB news director Robb Hays. “He is one of the best investigative journalists in the country and his work has earned him the respect of his peers across the industry.”
