Fox Sells Out Super Bowl Ads at ‘Record Pricing’


The numbers

$7 million — The reported minimum Fox was seeking for 30-second commercials for Super Bowl 59.

$3.56 billion — Fox’s reported revenue for the first quarter of fiscal 2025, up 11 percent from a year earlier.

The watercooler talk

On Monday’s earnings call for the first quarter of fiscal 2025, Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch announced that the company was sold out of inventory for Super Bowl 59 at “record pricing.” The company was reportedly seeking a minimum of $7 million for a 30-second spot.

Fox took in nearly $600 million for Super Bowl 57 in 2023 when the company sold the majority of 30-second spots in the mid-to-high $6 million range. Paramount announced it had passed that revenue in 2024 for the largest Super Bowl revenue ever.

Beyond the Super Bowl, Murdoch announced ratings wins for college football and the World Series, as well as noting that the NFL on Fox is off to its best start in five years, with America’s Game of the Week averaging around 26 million viewers, including a 28% increase in viewership in younger demos vs. the previous season.

In addition to a “compelling start” to its fall sports calendar, Murdoch noted that the first quarter fiscal 2025 was off to a “solid start” thanks to audience growth at Fox News, record political advertising across the company, and accelerating revenue growth at Tubi. The company believes Tubi will cross the $1 billion revenue mark this fiscal year.

The CEO also apologized to sports fans bombarded with political ads over the weekend, as sports drove national political ad sales at the company.

“From my perspective, I don’t see how we could ever do that. I think breaking apart part of the business would be very difficult,” Murdoch on if Fox would ever consider spinning off its cable properties like Comcast.
