Gogglebox divides opinion as Donald Trump comment sparks outrage | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV
With just days to go until Donald Trump and Kamala Harris go head to head in a final bid for the lauded title of US president, the Gogglebox cast was transfixed by the TV coverage of the campaign.
However, some argued that the Channel 4 show was “biased” against Trump in its presentation what cast members thought, suggesting their opinions had been manipulated. At first, viewers laughed along with Mary when she exclaimed: “They’re all going to have cardiac arrests, these old men!”
Yet things swiftly turned serious, and one fan took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to complain: “#gogglebox once again showing their left wing bias by showing all the negative comments on Trump, but none of the vile things the left have said about the right.” Another agreed, writing: “Why is #gogglebox presenting such a bias view. Biden literally called Trump supporters garbage. Taking loads of stuff out of context…”
A third chimed in: “#gogglebox yawn, same old bias.” Then a fourth protested: “I see all the Goggleboxers have been told what to say about politics!”
Another fan insisted that the show was being “very predictable about Trump”, using a sleeping emoji to convey contempt.
Someone else claimed that Trump voters terrified them, but some felt that Brits should focus their fears closer to home.
Referring to one Gogglebox comment, “They must be bricking it in America”, a Twitter follower shot back: “Sweetie you should be bricking it HERE!”
Thus far, Trump has described Biden as a “b*****d” and made comparisons to the devil, before describing the vice-president as a “sleazebag”.
He also took a shot at former Republican Representative Liz Cheney after learning that she was endorsing Kamala Harris.
He told Fox News host Tucker Carlson: “Let’s put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her, okay?
“Let’s see how she feels about it, you know, when the guns are trained on her face.”
Meanwhile, at Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally in New York on Sunday, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe declared Puerto Rico “a floating island of garbage”.
Biden swiftly shot back: “The only garbage I see floating out there is [Trump’s] supporters.”
When Democrat supporters chanted of Trump: “Lock him up! Lock him up!”, Harris responded at her own rally: “The courts are going to handle that!”
So far, the race between Harris and Trump is incredibly close, with attention being paid to swing states which could determine the overall fate of next week’s election.
