Longtime Twitter Exec Matthew Derella to Lead LinkedIn Marketing Solutions
Penry Price is not quite “Open to Work” yet, but he announced on Wednesday he is stepping down from his longtime role as vice president of LinkedIn Marketing Solutions.
Longtime Twitter veteran Matthew Derella will join the professional network to succeed him.
Price revealed his impending departure in a video posted to LinkedIn Wednesday, saying that he will remain in his role through the end of December and stay on in an advisory role through February, followed by “a bunch of downtime” before his next move.
Derella had been CEO of artificial intelligence-enabled workforce company Catalyte since December 2022, but he is best known for the nearly nine years he spent at Twitter, rising to chief customer officer before leaving the platform in August 2021.
He joined Twitter in October 2012 as director of brand and agency strategy after five-and-a-half years as director of agency business development at Google.
Derella said in a LinkedIn post announcing the move, “The most rewarding moments in my career have been centered on developing talent, driving customer success, and expanding economic and educational access. These passions now converge as I take on the opportunity to lead the LinkedIn ads business and contribute to LinkedIn’s vision of creating economic opportunity for every member of the global workforce. The work itself—and the purpose behind it—resonates deeply with me.”
Price joined LinkedIn October 2013 following a little over two years as president of adtech firm Distillery. Prior to that, he spent seven years with Google, rising to vp, agency sales and partnerships, worldwide before leaving the company in June 2011.
He reflected on his 11-plus years at the professional network in a video he shot while walking to work in Dublin, saying, “Our business was about a $300 million business with big aspirations toward the end of 2013, when I joined. I was curious about the business-to-business and professional space. The company was making a pivot to a mobile feed-first member experience. “
Price added, “All these years and many transformations later … now, as a business north of $5 billion in revenue, and the place known as ‘the place to B2B,’ an enormous opportunity remains for LinkedIn and LinkedIn Marketing Solutions.”
