More Than 5,000 Raised to Rebuild Masjid Al-Taqwa Burnt in LA Wildfires

A devastating wildfire has left the cherished Masjid Al-Taqwa in ruins, but the community’s response has been nothing short of remarkable.

Following the January 7, 2025, destruction caused by the Eaton Fire, an official campaign to rebuild the mosque has already raised more than $745,000, with the fundraising goal recently increased to accommodate further donations, a campaign on Launchgood says.

“This campaign is the official campaign approved and backed by the Masjid Al-Taqwa board,” emphasized the organizers, urging the public to continue their generous support.

For over 20 years, Masjid Al-Taqwa has been more than a place of worship for the Altadena, Pasadena, and neighbouring communities.

“Masjid Al-Taqwa has been more than just a place of prayer—it has been a second home for so many of us,” said Backer Abu-Jaradeh, a local general contractor and electrical engineer leading the rebuilding effort.

The mosque has served as a hub for faith, community gatherings, and essential services, making its loss deeply felt.

A Transparent Rebuilding Effort

The rebuilding project is being undertaken by Bayt Construction, which has committed to working at cost, ensuring every dollar donated is spent on labor and materials.

“There will be no contractor profit or compensation—only the essential costs to rebuild,” Abu-Jaradeh assured donors.

To further emphasise transparency, all contributions are being directed into the mosque’s official account.

For those seeking additional reassurance, the organisers have offered connections with Masjid Al-Taqwa board members or the community’s Imam, Junaid.

Outpouring of Support

The response from the community has been overwhelming. The original fundraising target has been surpassed, prompting organizers to increase the goal to allow more people to contribute.

“This is our time to give back,” reads the campaign’s statement. “Masjid Al-Taqwa has been there for us—now, it’s our turn to come together and ensure it stands strong again.”

As California continues to battle destructive wildfires, stories like this highlight the resilience of faith and community.

The rebuilding of Masjid Al-Taqwa stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of its worshippers and the generosity of those who care about preserving spaces of worship and unity.

The campaign organisers remain hopeful that the mosque will soon be restored, offering a renewed sanctuary for prayer, reflection, and togetherness.
