Over 18.5 Million Muslims Performed Hajj and Umrah in 2024
More than 18.5 million Muslim worshippers from around the world performed Hajj and Umrah in 2024, marking a record-breaking year for Islamic pilgrimage.
The announcement was made by Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Tawfiq al-Rabiah, during the fourth Hajj and Umrah Conference and Exhibition held in Jeddah on Monday.
This achievement reflects significant efforts to improve pilgrimage services, including streamlined procedures and enhanced facilities. Al-Rabiah credited the directives of King Salman and the support of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the success, Al-Arabiya reported.

One of the key advancements noted was the dramatic increase in visits to al-Rawdah al-Sharifah at the Prophet’s Mosque.
“By upgrading the workforce, streamlining the online booking process, and implementing a professional crowd management system, the number of visitors increased from 4 million in 2022 to over 13 million in 2024,” al-Rabiah said.
The minister also highlighted the introduction of an upgraded version of the “Nusuk” app, now featuring 100 additional services to enhance the pilgrimage experience.
Reflecting on the progress made in recent years, al-Rabiah acknowledged the challenges faced by earlier generations of pilgrims.
“The pilgrimage journey, once filled with difficulty and exhaustion, has now been transformed into one of ease and reassurance, with comprehensive services available to all pilgrims,” he said.
The conference emphasised Saudi Arabia’s dedication to facilitating a meaningful and seamless pilgrimage for millions of Muslims worldwide.
