Robert Jenrick’s brutal prediction for 2025 – ‘year of the Reeves-cession’ | Politics | News
Robert Jenrick has a grim outlook for 2025, dubbing it the year of the “Reeves-cession”.
The Conservative MP for Newark posted a video on X (formerly Twitter) of his dire economic predictions for the coming year.
He said: “I’m not normally one to make New Year’s predictions, but I’ll take a punt on one this time. 2025 may be the year of the Reeves-cession.
“Why? Well the UK economy is already on life support. The monitor is beeping and it’s flashing red. And to make things worse we have an inadequate newbie at the helm.
“Rachel Reeves has wrecked the economy. Growth is gone, inflation is up, and interest rates remain stubbornly high. She’s taxed, and she’s borrowed, and everyone is paying the price.
“And what about all of those jobs? Well she still believes in green jobs, just on the other side of the world. That’s where the solar panels and the electric vehicles are going to get made.
“Tell that to people here. Who are working in automotive or in oil and gas. It’s almost as if the Labour government’s policies are designed to make working people’s lives unlivable.”
This comes after Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced her budget, which saw the government scrapping the winter fuel allowance and changing the farmers’ inheritance tax exemption.
Jenrick went on to write in the Telegraph that Reeves has sent the UK into “a death spiral of higher taxes and lower growth” with her Budget a few months ago.
He said that the only “genuinely pro-growth policy” that Labour has announced is housebuilding, which the MP says will “put a dent in the housing shortage”
The shadow chancellor added that it’s “all rather grim and depressing” and “a storm is gathering”, with Starmer and Reeves “clinging to the old order’s tattered remains as they dance on the edge of the precipice”.
