Stock market today: BSE Sensex rises over 350 points; Nifty50 near 23,200
Stock market today: BSE Sensex and Nifty50, the Indian equity benchmark indices, opened in green a day after the significant market crash. While BSE Sensex was above 76,600, Nifty50 was near 23,200. At 9:16 AM, BSE Sensex was trading at 76,687.97, up 358 points or 0.47%. Nifty50 was at 23,199.55, up 114 points or 0.49%. The Indian rupee recovered from record low levels and rose 20 paise to 86.50 against US dollar in early trade.
Indian markets experienced a significant decline on Monday, reflecting global market trends following robust US payroll data that suggests reduced rate cuts in 2025. Market experts anticipate continued volatility influenced by the 2025 budget, Q3 results, RBI policy decisions, and Trump’s policy directions.
Nifty displays weakness in its underlying trend, with support expected around 22,800-22,700 levels. According to Nagaraj Shetti of HDFC Securities, any upward movement towards 23,350 could present a selling opportunity.
US markets showed mixed performance, with Nasdaq declining while S&P 500 made marginal gains amidst elevated Treasury yields. Asian markets displayed varied movements, with Sydney trading higher and Tokyo slightly lower.
Foreign portfolio investors shifted to selling mode with net outflows of Rs 4,893 crore on Monday, whilst domestic institutional investors demonstrated strong buying activity, acquiring shares valued at Rs 8,066 crore.
Foreign institutional investors’ net short positions expanded from Rs 2.77 lakh crore on Friday to Rs lakh crore on Monday.
