Today Celebrates One Month on Top
It’s a month at the top for NBC News’ Today. The morning show celebrated its fourth week as No. 1 among total viewers and the Adults 25-54 demo for the week of Nov. 18.
This is Today’s first November sweep since 2018 and its most significant total viewer advantage over ABC News’ Good Morning America in that month since 2011. The not-so-good news is that GMA is still nipping at its heels as only 15,000 total viewers separated the two shows.
Leaving aside the horse race, both Today and GMA posted week-to-week gains in both measured categories. Unfortunately, CBS News’ CBS Mornings didn’t enjoy the same momentum.
According to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen, GMA averaged 2.802 million total viewers and 507,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo. It was up +6% in the former category and +9% in the latter compared to the previous week. Looking at its performance alongside the same week in 2023 (the week of Nov. 20), GMA was down -10% in total viewers and -21% in the demo.
Today ranked first place in both total viewers and the demo with 2.817 million and 699,000 viewers, respectively. That translates to week-to-week gains of +5% in the former category and +3% in the latter. Year-to-year Today was down -15% in total viewers and -16% in the demo.
CBS Mornings saw 2.070 million total viewers and 401,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo for a flat finish in the former category and a dip of -3% in the latter. Compared to 2023, CBS Mornings was down in -12% in total viewers and -10% in the demo.
